Steve Piotrowski

Steve Piotrowski, one of the most distinguished and respected referees in college hockey, is entering his first season as the league’s Director of Officials.

A veteran of over 1,300 collegiate games, he has served as an on-ice official with the league for the past 26 years. Piotrowski has worked in the NCAA Tournament on 14 occasions and officiated six NCAA national championship games, beginning in 1987 and most recently in 2005 at Columbus, Ohio, along with being tabbed by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) to referee in the World Championship and World Junior Championship events.

Piotrowski started in the CCHA in 1977 as a player at Ferris State University. During his on-ice career, Piotrowski has also served as a National Hockey League referee trainee and USA Hockey Officiating Program National Instructional Staff Member.

In addition to his role overseeing a CCHA officiating staff that, during the 2006-07 season, consisted of a dozen referees, 50 assistant referees and four game supervisors, Piotrowski will serve on the Hobey Baker Memorial Award & NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Rules Committee.

Piotrowski lives in Troy with his wife Beth and daughters Lindsey, 22, Heather, 20 and son Steven, 14.
